Add to my wishlist See my wishlist

Come explore the rivers and jungle paths of the mysterious and incredibly diverse Amazon Rainforest and discover a variety of plant and animal life among the lush greenery and rushing waters, such as tropical birds, alligators, monkeys, turtles, and piranhas. With a surprise around every corner, this trip is an unforgettable adventure.

DAY 1: CUSCO – PUERTO MALDONADO – MONKEY ISLAND

We´ll come pick you up upon your arrival to Puerto Maldonado and visit the market. We´ll enjoy our lunch either in the city or back at the Inn, depending upon your time of arrival. We´ll board our vessel at the port and navigate the Madre de Dios River for about an hour before we arrive at the Inn, where everyone will then receive their room assignments.
On this day we´ll visit the river´s Monkey Island, which hundreds of monkeys call home (including black spider monkeys, capuchins, pygmy marmosets, and squirrel monkeys, among others). We´ll return to the inn for dinner and in the night you will have the option to participate in nocturnal activities or not.

DAY 2: SANDOVAL LAKE

We´ll begin our day with a satisfying breakfast and then begin our 1½ hr walk through virgin jungle to Sandoval Lake. The striking plant life you´ll observe includes orchids and the 10-15ft plantanillos. We´ll search the waters for piranhas and Paiches, which are considered "living fossils" and tend to be around 6.6ft. We´ll see animals such as giant otters, Cayman alligators and wild chickens. Those who choose can take a refreshing dip in the waters. Lunch will be served during the trip.
Back at the Inn we´ll have dinner and there´ll be optional nocturnal activities.

DAY 3: TARICAYA PROJECT

The day begins with a nutritious breakfast and an hour-long journey downriver to Project Taricaya. Some of the large variety of animals we´ll see at Taricaya include turtles, macaws, "little spotted cats" (leopardus tigrinus), and hog-like mammals known as collared peccaries. After lunch we´ll go on a jungle walk along winding paths and a hanging bridge (100m long/60m high) while we study and learn about the Amazon´s native animals and medicinal plants. Dinner will be back at the Inn. You´ll have the option to rest or participate in nocturnal activities.

DAY 4: PARROT CLAY LICK – PUERTO MALDONADO

Departing very early, we´ll head upriver by boat to accommodate ourselves alongside a parrot clay lick, a wall rich in minerals and salt where hundreds of green parrots will arrive to feed in the days early hours. We´ll have breakfast here and spend 1½ hours watching the clay lick come alive with color, movement, and sound before returning to the Inn and then the city of Puerto Maldonado.
