DON'T MISS MACHU PICCHU: LEARN ABOUT NEW ENTRY REGULATIONS

As of this week, new regulations are in place limiting the amount of daily visitors permitted to enter Machu Picchu Sanctuary to 2,500 and affecting the reservation and entrance ticket purchase for Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu, and other archeological sites administered by the INC (Instituto Nacional de Cultura- Cusco). These sudden changes have caused difficulties and confusion among travelers right in the midst of their travels through Peru. Pirwa Hostels Peru offers a travel service which is always ready to address your travel concerns or assist with tour or transport arrangements. You can find our travel desks in Pirwa hostels and B&Bs in all major cities of Peru or contact us by phone or email; visit the Pirwa Travel site here.

What is the New System?

  1. Machu Picchu/Inca Trail/Archeological Centers

Reservations must be made online, independently or through a Travel Agency, prior to ticket purchase. To make the reservation one must select the site and entry route and input identification information in order to generate a reservation code used to pay for the entry ticket in Banco de la Nacion del Peru or in the offices of DIRECTUR (Dirección Regional e Comercio Exterior y Turismo) or the INC (Instituto Nacional de Cultura- Cusco). You may also pay online, although only MULTIRED or VISA is accepted. (You need to create a Verified by Visa service login.) If you are reserving Machu Picchu, you have 6hrs to make payment, and for other archeological centers, 5hrs. If the payment is not made in time, the system will annul the reservation. Once a payment has been made, you must print out your ticket using the reservation code, you will not receive a ticket.

  2. Huayna Picchu

400 people will be permitted to climb Huayna Picchu daily: 200 between 7-8am and 200 between 10-11am. You must reserve and purchase entrance to Huayna Picchu in advance- this is now down in concert with the Machu Picchu entrance.

How Will This Affect You?

Many travelers visiting Peru do so with flexible itineraries, but with the new limits, it is no longer advisable to plan your Machu Picchu visit the day before you´d like to leave. The largest consequence however, will be that those who are unable or do not prefer to pay their entry fee online can lose half of day of their vacation in the bank, which can fill depending on the day or hour, or in the municipal offices DIRCETUR or INC in Cusco. Pirwa travel service is based in Cusco, Peru, making it easy for us to confirm reservations and payments and ensure that you don´t miss out on Machu Picchu, which is sure to be the highlight of your Peruvian Adventure. The best part is that Pirwa Travel can arrange tours and transport all over Peru, and Pirwa Hostels and B&Bs are centrally located in all of the major cities of Peru, so you can take care of all your travel plans in the same place.
