First came the rain, then came the floods and then the horror news, that the new wonder of the world would be inaccessible for an indefinite time. Keeping the fact in mind, that more than 60% of the people live from tourism. The rains hit the area around Cusco and especially around Machupicchu really bad. It was a great shock for a lot of people, but these folks never loose there hope.
Cusco got very quiet, seemed like wandering through a ghost city… at least compared with the first weeks of January. People escaped for the cost or Puno. If you would have looked a little closer, it was not as spooky as it seemed to be. There were still a few tourists who remained in the city to explored the beauty of the Sacred Valley and the, especially for international tourists fairly unknown, ruins in the surrounding area of Cusco, which played important roles in during the time of the great Inca Empire.
Waiting nearly two month, hoping for more sun and less rain. Especially the construction workers worked very hard fixing all the damaged bridges, streets and railways to finally get the train to Machupicchu running again. The official information from the government says that the train from 82 km (Ollantaytambo) to 102 km (Aguas Calientes) will start to operate again from the 29 March. The news which is probably a lot more important for the majority, when will the new wonder of the world open its doors again? The 1 April is the day we were all waiting for. It is only 3 weeks from now and you can feel the magic of this place again

Following winding streets through a desert, down into a valley, surrounded by a beauty of nothing. The fact, that you would only pass a few cars gives you the impression that you will end up in the middle of nowhere. The only sign of life are a few cactuses at the side of the street. Suddenly you will be able to start seeing trees and flowers and shortly after that a few houses until you will end up in the center of Nazca, a paradise in the middle of the desert. It is a small town, with a few stores around the city center, some small bars and clubs.
Your first impression might be, that there is nothing going on in this little town, but once you look a little closer you hopefully will change your mind.
Experience an unforgettable adventure in the highest sand dunes of the world. Walking meter per meter up till you reach the summit in the glowing heat, surrounded by the desert, is already quite impressive. But this is nothing compared with what you will feel once you get on the sand board to go down the hill.
Taking a flight over the famous geoglyphs of Nasca requires that your stomach is not the weakest. If that is the case you rather skip your breakfast or take some pills against sickness. The best possible time to see the Nazca Lines are the morning hours, since cooler air ensures a smoother ride.
An approximately 25 minute ride out of t
own brings you to the Chauchilla Cemetery. At this place you will find bodies preserved by the dry climate of Nazca for more than 1000 years. These still have their hair attached including some cotton textiles. Unfortunately where a lot of well-preserved fabrics looted by the poor people during the time of the depression in the 1930s.
Within 5-10 minutes you are able to reach the Cantalloc Aqueducts. These served the people with water and some are still used today by the local farmers.
Another highlight is Nazca’s largest religious ceremonial center Cahuachi,
about 30 minutes out of town in the middle of the desert. It is not the best preserved site, even though some people believe that it holds the key to the famous Nazca Lines.
Nazca offers more than just a desert and tons of travel agencies in town. Find out for yourself!

Now we got your interest! You look for a place to stay in Nazca? Our brand new PIRWA HOSTEL in Nazca
is located only a few minutes from the main plaza and only two blogs from the main road with all the restaurants, cafés, he bus terminal and other places of interest!
