First came the rain, then came the floods and then the horror news, that the new wonder of the world would be inaccessible for an indefinite time. Keeping the fact in mind, that more than 60% of the people live from tourism. The rains hit the area around Cusco and especially around Machupicchu really bad. It was a great shock for a lot of people, but these folks never loose there hope.
Cusco got very quiet, seemed like wandering through a ghost city… at least compared with the first weeks of January. People escaped for the cost or Puno. If you would have looked a little closer, it was not as spooky as it seemed to be. There were still a few tourists who remained in the city to explored the beauty of the Sacred Valley and the, especially for international tourists fairly unknown, ruins in the surrounding area of Cusco, which played important roles in during the time of the great Inca Empire.
Waiting nearly two month, hoping for more sun and less rain. Especially the construction workers worked very hard fixing all the damaged bridges, streets and railways to finally get the train to Machupicchu running again. The official information from the government says that the train from 82 km (Ollantaytambo) to 102 km (Aguas Calientes) will start to operate again from the 29 March. The news which is probably a lot more important for the majority, when will the new wonder of the world open its doors again? The 1 April is the day we were all waiting for. It is only 3 weeks from now and you can feel the magic of this place again
